Ebola is a fairly new, fatal disease that has no cure. Recently, researchers have found that ZMapp, an experimental drug, has cured about eighteen macaque monkeys that were infected with the virus. The monkeys that were three days away from death had treatment and were cured. Three infected macaques that did not get the treatment were dead in eight days. Scientists from the San Diego Biotechnology Company, which joined the Gary P. Kobinger Canadian Public Health Agency, designed and developed ZMapp. Kobinger said that the antibodies that are being cloned recognize and attach to the strains of the virus. The results for the ZMapp cure were successful and they are hoping to test it on humans and save lives. This is the most promising option right now for Ebola patients to get cured. If a human is diagnosed with Ebola, the life span for that person will be twelve to fourteen days. It is difficult to differentiate the timeline for curing humans from the macaques but Kobinger concluded that there would no t be a difference. In macaques the treatment showed no signs of harmful side effects. Nature Study reported that if the disease reached the nervous system of the macaque ZMapp was not able to treat it. It is still a mystery if ZMapp will treat everyone in the future. Scientists are still running tests trying to find a cure for patients suffering from Ebola.

It is important that an audience should read this article because it shows how scientists are working their best trying to find a cure for a terrible disease. People should be familiar with ZMapp and other medications in case someone in their family is diagnosed.

"Speech to the Troops at Tilbury"

Queen Elizabeth made a memorable and powerful speech. In the speech she is speaking to her army, encouraging them to face the battle with strength, confidence, and determination. The subject of her speech is the battle. The occasion would be the battle against the Spanish Armada in 1588. The troops gathered around Queen Elizabeth listening to her speech are the audience. The purpose of her speech would be to encourage the troops to fight with all they have to win. Queen Elizabeth is the speaker in this speech. The tone of her voice is friendly in the beginning but as the speech progresses she speaks as a powerful leader, with encouragement and hope.
In this piece of literature SOAPST is used so the reader has an easier understanding of the Queens speech. It helps the reader to analyze and understand the piece better. We can see by the Queen’s wording how powerful and strong a woman she is. Her wording helps us understand the emotions of the men going into war. Her powerful words show determination that she wants to and will win.
The Queens speech is effective. The wording and emotions she uses in her speech show us her encouragement to her fellow soldiers. The power radiating from her speech shows how everyone respects her. In her speech when she says she is one of them shows that she respects her soldiers who will fight for the country. As a powerful Queen and leader, she will inspire her troops to win.

Hydrocodone found in Painkillers

“DEA Tightens Controls on Hydrocodone Painkiller Drugs”

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has decided to put strict policies on the most popular narcotic painkiller, which has caused problems with addictions, overdose, and even death. A narcotic is a depressant that causes addiction, relieves pain, induces sleep, and causes sedation. The DEA published a rule on Friday that hydrocodone products such as Vicodin and Norco will be categorized with other commonly abused medications. In forty-five days all the medications that include hydrocodones will be treated as Schedule II drugs. Patients need to follow new restrictions in order to have access to these painkillers. Pharmacists now by law need to follow strict rules in handling and storing these drugs. According to the International Narcotics Control Board, the U.S. consumes ninety-nine percent of the hydrocodones in the world. Annually these narcotic painkillers have caused sixteen thousand deaths. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that more drug deaths have happened than car crash deaths. The Los Angeles Times did an analysis of prescription-drug fatalities in Southern California and concluded that 945 of the deaths had to deal with prescribed medication. Doctors these days have prescribed painkillers that contain hydrocodone and acetaminophen (a substance that relieves headache and high fever). Drug enforcements have complained that hydrocodone has been widely violated. The DEA is trying their hardest to make the painkillers more difficult for patients to purchase. Governor Jerry Brown has signed two bills for this investigation. They have to do with prescribing these painkillers recklessly. Proposition 46 will be offered to California voters in November stating that doctors will check a drug monitoring program that is called CURES before prescribing medication to a patient.
This article is important because we have found out what is actually put in the painkillers. These painkillers have caused a lot of problems and need to be fixed. The DEA is trying to do everything to stop this because of the addictive drug that is in the painkillers. This is important because many people consume painkillers from time to time and to have an addictive drug as a major substance will cause many problems. That substance needs to be changed because it is unhealthy for patients to consume.

Need Another Reason to Go Vegetarian?

There are not many people who choose to be vegetarian. There are various reasons why they would choose to not eat animals: because of their health, environment, ethical reasons, and global food shortage. In the United States ninety-one percent of the population is not vegetarian. This advertisement’s organization, peta2, shows that they are willing to do anything to promote a vegetarian lifestyle.  In this ad logos is shown by this quote that describes the way animals are treated on factory farms, “Never feeling the sun on their backs or the grass beneath their feet, unable spread a wing or stretch a leg… animals suffer on factory farms”. The ad might captivate people because they put a picture of the Australian singer Missy Higgins supporting vegetarians as part of the ethos. Pathos is shown in this ad by Missy Higgins holding a healthy, happy, and cute-looking pig. Missy Higgins and the pig look happy and it gives an emotional feel because people will remember how pigs are killed. On the bottom right hand corner it is labeled, “To get free stickers and a DVD, visit peta2.com." This shows us that the ad is bribing the audience.
This ad is effective because it shows how innocent animals look. It will remind people that killing them is not worth it and they should consider being vegetarian. The quote in the add shows animals suffering because instead of being free they are used as meat for humans to eat. Overall the ad is loving, caring, and sensitive to animals. It shows that animals do not cause any harm and are as loving as humans can be. Missy Higgins is happy in the ad while holding the pig, which shows the audience that pigs should not be killed just for meat.
