Gatsby Quote

“There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired” (Fitzgerald, 76).

  This quote is said by Nick. He says this type of saying, because in the story it has reached a point where everything is in turmoil. “The pursued” refers to Daisy. Gatsby in the story will pursue Daisy to fall in love with him again. Nick will pursue her to come to his house to have some tea without Tom’s presence, so Gatsby will make an appearance. “The pursuing” is Gatsby. He has been in love with Daisy for years, even though she is married, and he still wants to be with her. He will pursue her to leave Tom, and continue a life with Gatsby. He persuades her by showing his riches and the life that she could’ve had, if only she waited. “The busy” is Tom because he is busy sneaking around with Myrtle, and hiding it from Daisy and others. “The tired”, is Nick because he is tired with dealing all this drama and is stuck in the middle. He knows every secret and is in the middle in everything. He is tired of dealing with Gatsby and his love life with Daisy, tired of seeing Tom and Myrtle, tired of Jordan. Nick is not the one who judges, but he is stuck in this loophole with all these judgmental people. He is tired of hearing their stories and lies. He came to New York for a reason and that is to be in the stock business, but all he has been doing is dealing with all these secrets and lies. This quote is important because it shows how these people all have lies and secrets and how it affects Nick.

“Obama’s State of the Union: More foreign than before”

  President Obama’s 2015 State of the Union address is that he gave a short intro to the crucial topic of foreign policy. Politico’s Josh Gerstein criticizes Obama for not mentioning al-Qaeda or the Israeli- Palestinian peace process. The foreign policy sections of Obama’s speech were unambitious and lacking in detail. Obama is actually focusing and paying more attention this year on foreign policy than ever before. This conclusion is different than all of his other six States of the Union addresses. Presidents tend to devote more time and attention to foreign policy the longer they stay in office. Presidents comfort foreign policy on their second term because they simply become comfortable with setting foreign policy as they gain more experience in handling international diplomacy. When it comes to foreign policy Obama will confront Republicans where they may be his closest allies on some of these issues while Democrats will go against him. Obama noted that “our combat mission in Afghanistan is over,” but he did note the continued and extended presence of U.S troops in that country, and in Iraq. He fights against the Islamic States, which has continued to hold territory in both Iraq and Syria. Obama pledged that he would not send combat troops back to Iraq, but he as been steadily increasing the number of American forced on the ground there. On Cuba, by contrast, Republicans will likely do all they can to block the administration’s push to further normalize ties with Havana, including the possible reopening of an American embassy there.

  Obama’s state of the Union address is important to at least have an idea about because it shows the people what Obama’s future resolutions are. He tells the people what he is planning to overcome and how he will tackle these problems.  

Gatsby Party!!

Ballroom

  Hotel De Paris will be such a grand place to throw my beautiful and elegant Gatsby ball. Hotel De Paris is located in Monaco in Monte Carlo. It is a beautiful city with riches and luxury. So many celebrities from all around the world, my family, my dearest classmates, and of course Mrs.Kirkman will be attending this grand ball. In the hotel there is a beautiful ballroom Le Louis XV-Alain Ducasse  

is where the party will be. I picked this beautiful room because it just reminds me of Gatsby and his fancy parties. Our top cuisine chefs in Monoco, Franck Cerutti and Dominique Lory will be cooking for our guests. The décor in our elegant ballroom will be tall white cocktail tables where guests can enjoy their champagne and appetizers. There will be no sit down dinner; only alcohol and finger foods will be served. Live jazz music will be played throughout the whole night. Flappers will entertain the guests with their choreographed dances. There will be a gold carpet in the entrance welcoming guests and an interviewer asking questions to the guests about how they feel about the party and at how beautiful everything looks. Some flappers will be standing on high stools holding giant champagne bottles that they will refill if guests hold up their glass to them. Waiters have been professionally trained just to work for that evening. Beautiful flower arrangements will be made and placed throughout the ballroom and topped off with white feathers. Bright lights will gleam through the night, while guests enjoy themselves by dancing, drinking, eating, or socializing. Guests will be picked up anywhere they would like with complementary cars that I will be providing which will be the 2015 Rolls Royce Ghost Series II. These cars will pick up and drop off guests. Women will be dressed beautifully in elegant long colorful dresses, with 1920’s hairstyles, and expensive jewelry. Men would wear their finest tuxes and impress the ladies. If guests decide to stay at the hotel they will be accommodated with a free suite. There will be only an invited guest list; no walk-ins or random people. This will be the party of the century that tabloids will not stop gossiping about.

  Aspirin is one of the most popular drugs that people take who have never had a heart attack or stroke and would like to keep it that way. One in ten people aspirin can do more harm than be helpful to their bodies. Cardiologists around the U.S were treating 698,808 patients. 7,972 of them were taking aspirin despite having a low risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next ten years. 11.6% of patients were taking aspirin inappropriately according to the study. Aspirin, which is also known as acetylsalicylic acid, averts heart attacks and strokes by preventing the formation of blood clots. Clots are made up of blood cells called platelets, which stick together with the help of an enzyme known as cyclooxygenase, or COX. Aspirin prevents COX from doing its job. Aspirin can still be dangerous in other ways. When blood cannot clot easily, people run the risk of excessive bleeding. In the brain, that can lead to a hemorrhagic stroke. Other kinds of internal bleeding can happen as well. That is why experts recommend aspirin therapy only for people with a significant risk of a lot related problem. It is not clear whether all of the people taking aspirin inappropriately were doing so at the direction of their cardiologist. Aspirin does not require a prescription, and some patients may be buying it on their own record.

  This is an important article to read because we see how dangerous aspirin can be just by consuming it if not prescribed. People now need to be careful if they are even allowed to consume aspirin. People now that do take aspirin need to be extra careful while consuming.

  What did women wear in the 1920’s? The attire that women wear in the 1920’s depends on what they were doing, where they were going, whom they were meeting, and what time of the day it was. Women in the morning would dress in their most comfortable attire. Their family only companies them, so they do not need to show off. The housewife would only wear a simple cotton dress and low heel oxfords. The housedresses would be basic and comfortable in order for the women to freely do housework. If the family was poor the cotton housedress would be the their attire for the whole day. When the women were done with their chores at home they had to run some errands while their husbands were at work. Clothing was simple but the texture was higher quality than just cotton. They would wear a walking suit, which basically was a skirt, blouse, and sweater, which would

be paired with mid heel oxford shoes. A tailored dress made out of silk or wool would also be appropriate. Colors for the streets were black, navy, grey, tan, and olive green. Women usually did not wear bold jewelry, embellished hats, or large purses, and stockings should be matte and only semi sheer. The most common social activity that women had was afternoon tea with their friends. These tea parties could be semi-formal or formal. A tea dress would be an afternoon dress with brighter colors, and more trim. These dresses sophisticate beauty. Shoes and the accessories were more dramatic also. Shoes would be pumps or strap heels in a medium or high height. Stockings would be sheer chiffon to match the dress. Gloves should match the dress also or be white. Hats would be either a feather trim sun hat or decorative cloche. If one is to host a tea party than they are not supposed to wear a hat and their dress needs to be long and elegant. When it is time for sinner and dancing the attire is semi-formal or formal. If the occasion is semi-formal than the afternoon dress attire is all one needed to wear. If it were to be formal event then a women would wear a sleeveless dress, high heels, sheer hose, several pieces of jewelry, and hair ornaments.

Work 

  Men’s business attire would be a three-piece suit. Men do not change their attire as women do. Types of suits usually changed with work and the season. Come men in upper-level positions at work would still wear a men’s formal morning suits with cutaway coats, striped pants, and vests. Gentlemen in the summer wore nice white linen suits or sporty clothing for a tea party. Men’s formal wear would be a tuxedo with tails or the new style of dinner jacket (tuxedo coat). Patent leather shoes and a top hat completed the look. Young men who did not have enough means in purchasing a tuxedo just wore their best suit.

  After the attack in Paris, the Persian Gulf nation of Yemen has frequently mentioned that Al Qaeda’s has appeared to claim responsibility for the attack as “revenge for the honor” of Muhammad. U.S and European authorities are still trying to figure out if the group had a role in planning the attack. If this is true then Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is trying to regain power to have a battle of one-upmanship between rival terrorist groups. The evidence is still unclear. Said Kouachi is one of the gunmen in this deadly attack. Kouachi appears to return to France in mid-2011 before Anwar Awlaki, the American- born cleric who has directed the group to Europeans an Americans. Anwar Awlaki has been killed by a U.S airstrike. U.S officials say by losing Anwar Awlaki death has disrupted the group to not attack earlier. After the death Kouachi has kept a low profile for years. Officials assume that Kouachi has planned his attack with his brother Cherif. The brothers may have been killed Friday in a police raid. Al Qaeda’s partnership gained in Yemen influenced a lot of followers. U.S officials now see Yemen’s group a more dangerous threat to U.S than Al Qaeda’s core group. In Paris there is still a search going on to find these terrorists.

  This article is important to read because we see how these terrorists are affecting innocent people. Terrorist attacks are an important subject to know about and to be aware of. Everyone is still shocked at the attack and is holding ceremonies in honor of those who have been attacked and killed.
